Russian Supreme Court to review Ukrainian citizen Sushchenko's espionage conviction on Sept 12

The Russian Supreme Court will review the conviction of Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko, who was sentenced to 12 years in a high-security penitentiary for spying, in mid-September.

"The hearing of appeals of the sentence the Moscow City Court passed on Sushchenko is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on September 12," the court's press service told Interfax on Wednesday.

The Moscow City Court sentenced Sushchenko to 12 years in a high-security penitentiary on July 4.

He was tried in camera, as his case is classified as "top secret," and the general public is unaware of the charges brought against him. Sushchenko's lawyer Mark Feygin has said on numerous occasions that his client denied any wrongdoing.
