Police detain five suspects in murder of Donbas fighter Oleshko

Law enforcers have detained five suspects in the murder of Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) fighter Vitaliy Oleshko in Vasylivka (Zaporizhia region), the press service of the National Police of Ukraine has reported, citing Deputy Head of the National Police Viacheslav Abroskin.

"The police stopped a car with four suspects in the town of Vasylivka, Zaporizhia region, and another detainee was found and detained by the police in Berdiansk. All five were detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code," reads the statement.

Abroskin said that law enforcement officers had found in Berdiansk a ZAZ car in which they discovered and seized a sawed-off hunting rifle. In addition, following the introduction of Plan "Siren" the police stopped a suspects' car at a checkpoint in Vasylivka.

"We found that four people who were in the car were involved in the murder of a resident of Berdiansk, and another one, the fifth suspect, was detained in Berdiansk," Abroskin said.

He added that the issue of declaring them suspects in committing the specified crime was being currently decided.

"I thank police officers for the work done. I also express gratitude to our citizens who did not stand aside and actively contributed to the police in identifying the perpetrators," he added.

The pretrial investigation opened under Part 1, Article 115 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being carried out under the procedural control of the prosecutor's office. All the circumstances and motives of the murder are being clarified.
