Azerbaijan refuses to extradite suspect of attack on MP Nayyem to Ukraine

The Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office has refused to grant Ukraine's request for the extradition of Magomed-Amin Saitov, one of the suspects of beating up Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada member Mustafa Nayyem in downtown Kyiv.

"The Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office has refused to extradite the perpetrator, citing a number of causes related to the Azerbaijani authorities' evaluation of behavior of Nayyem himself among other things," Ukrainian Deputy Prosecutor General Yevhen Yenin said on his Facebook account on Tuesday.

On April 30, 2018, an unidentified persons attacked parliamentarian Mustafa Nayyem of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc's faction during a road conflict in downtown Kyiv. Nayyem was diagnosed with a fracture of the jaw and concussion as a result of the beating.

On May 5, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies detained a 29-year-old suspect of Nayyem's beating at the request of Ukrainian investigators.
