Police investigate attack on activist Sternenko in Odesa as attempted murder

The police in Odesa have launched criminal proceedings under Part 1, Article 15, Part 1, Article 115 (attempted murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine due to an attempt on street activist Serhiy Sternenko, the former head of the Right Sector branch in Odesa, an adviser to the head of the main directorate of the National Police in Odesa region, Ruslan Forostiak, has reported on Facebook.

Dmytro Holovin, the head of the main directorate of the National Police in Odesa region, reported on his Facebook page that two people had been detained as a result of operative and investigative actions.

"The first was detained not far from the crime scene, and the second one just now. The vehicle probably used by criminals was also found. Investigative actions are being carried out, video was taken from surveillance cameras, and we are working with witnesses," Holovin wrote, promising to disclose the details later.

According to Forostiak, the activist sustained a head injury from a shot from a rubber-bullet gun, and there is no threat to his life and health.

Early on Tuesday, an unidentified person fired at Sternenko from a rubber-bullet gun near his house on Sehedska Street. The bullet hit the activist's neck from behind. Despite the injury, the activist managed to detain the gunman.
