Infrastructure ministry proposes closing rivers for Russian vessels

The Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine has initiated the address to the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) about a ban of entering inland water-ways of Ukraine for Russian vessels due to a high level of terrorist threats, according to a posting on the ministry's website.

"This is unacceptable when during the Russian Federation's aggression Russian ships float the rivers of Ukraine, where critical infrastructure facilities are located. We will initiate a ban on the floating of Russian vessels along the rivers of Ukraine," Deputy Infrastructure Minister Yuriy Lavreniuk said.

He also pointed out the need to strengthen the interaction between the Defense Ministry, the Foreign Ministry, the State Border Service, the Foreign Intelligence Service, as well as the President's office in Crimea on ship calls to closed seaports of Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as on sanctions related to the construction of the bridge through the Kerch Strait.

"We need to strengthen the measures as much as to identify unauthorized calls to closed ports in Crimea and to prosecute [for this]. The Infrastructure Ministry will analyze the vessels-violators via flags of the countries and ship owners, and then take measures against these violators," Lavreniuk said.

He also said that the Infrastructure Ministry had transferred the materials of the sanctions list to the Foreign Ministry for their further attachment to the international lawsuit.
