U.S. expects Russia's response to Volker's plan on Donbas – ambassador

The United States has not yet received a response from the Russian side to the plan proposed by U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker to resolve the situation in Donbas, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch has said.

When we look at the death and destruction caused by the forces that Russia has been controlling over the past four years, we want to help find a solution. Ambassador Kurt Volker directs our efforts [to resolve the conflict in Donbas], trying to work not only with Russians, but also with Ukraine and partners, especially with the Normandy Four ... He obviously has a plan. He had been working with the Russians on this issue and now we are waiting for a response from Russia, but we have not received it yet. I think Russia is to take the next step, said the ambassador in a joint interview with Radio Liberty and 112.Ukraine TV channel on Sunday.

Yovanovitch also expressed disappointment with the fact that the Easter truce was not observed.

We are very attentively monitoring the situation and we are disappointed that the ceasefire on Easter did not mean a cease-fire ... I think that this is totally unacceptable and this is what we have been seeing for four years. The injuries are received not only by the Ukrainian military, but the civilian population as well, the ambassador added.
