EC Vice President Sefcovic to visit Kyiv

Vice President of the European Commission on Energy Union Maros Sefcovic will arrive in Kyiv on a working visit on Friday, September 15, the EU Delegation to Ukraine has reported.

According to the EU Delegation, the EC Vice President will deliver a speech on the geopolitical aspects of energy policy at the opening of the 14th annual meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES).

"The Vice-President would like to discuss the progress of the reforms in the energy sector, the reforms of Naftogaz and the transportation of gas, including its search for ways to further develop cooperation between the EU and Ukraine in the context of the Energy Union," the report says.

Sefcovic will also hold meetings with Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, Deputy Prime Ministers Hennadiy Zubko and Volodymyr Kistion, Energy Minister Ihor Nasalyk and Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin. In addition, he will consider the issue of reforms in the energy sector with members of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Naftogaz Ukrainy CEO Andriy Kobolev.

"The European Union strongly supports Ukraine's reforms in the energy sector, which are key to modernizing the economy, benefiting both consumers and enterprises. I'm waiting for a discussion with the Ukrainian leadership on our next steps. We must use the full potential of Ukraine in energy efficiency, energy and transportation of gas," the Vice President of the EC said on the eve of his visit to Kyiv.
