Internal security head of State Fiscal Service announces his resignation

The head of the Main Internal Security Directorate of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine (SFS), Yuriy Sheremet, has announced his intention to immediately resign from the department to ensure the objectivity of the investigation against Roman Nasirov, head of the service.

"... I give my word to the state prosecutor to resign from the position of the head of internal security of the SFS in the morning," Sheremet wrote on his Facebook page at night.

The head of the department explained that the state prosecutor, when examining the motion for choosing a preventive measure for Nasirov, called one of the reasons for Nasirov's arrest during the investigation, telling that Nasirov has known Sheremet from school days. According to the prosecution, the head of the SFS, being at large, will be able to influence the employees of the service through the chief of internal security, which excludes the objectivity of the investigation, Sheremet said.

"I am solely for securing objectivity and establishing the truth in the case," he said.

Earlier, commenting on reports in the media about the possibility of investigating his activities directly, Sheremet said that he was ready for such an investigation in order to prevent future speculation on this issue. At the same time, he noted that his post does not belong to the jurisdiction of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, which is conducting the case against Nasirov.

As reported, on March 7, Solomyansky District Court of Kyiv chose a pretrial restriction for the suspended chief of the State Fiscal Service, Roman Nasirov, in the form of arrest for 60 days and levied a bail of UAH 100 million.

On Friday morning, March 3, head of the PGO's Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) Nazar Kholodyntsky reported that Nasirov was handed a notice of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power, resulting in grave consequences).
