Japan favors sanctions against Russia until Minsk agreements obligations met – Abe at meeting with Rada speaker Parubiy

Sanctions against the Russian Federation cannot be lifted until full implementation of the Minsk agreements, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said.

"Sanctions against Russia, which have been supported by Japan along with other countries of the G7, must not be lifted until full implementation of the Minsk agreements," the Japanese PM said at a meeting with Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine speaker Andriy Parubiy on Thursday, according to the parliament's press service.

According to the press service, Abe said he is "trying his utmost to support Ukraine during his work at international forums." He expressed the hope for strengthened ties on the international arena with Ukraine, including in the United Nations Security Council.

"Lately there are more crisis situations in the world … and therefore we support your position about the necessity to cooperate in order to strengthen word security within the framework of the UNSC, as well by means of the exchange of information between our respective security services."

As earlier reported by the Kyiv-based Interfax-Ukraine news agency, Parubiy from February 25 through March 3 is on a working visit to Japan.
