Taruta reports on NBU governor Gontareva to NABU; her e-declaration to be examined

Member of Parliament Serhiy Taruta on Friday submitted information to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) which reportedly indicates violations committed by Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeriya Gontareva while filling in her e-declaration of assets; the NABU said it would verify the data.

Taruta shared the evidence with the NABU which reportedly reveals that "while filling in her declaration, Gontareva hid the fact of the conflict of interests, did not indicate a multi-million debt owed by the ICU company, which is Avangard Bank's owner, to her, and did not pay taxes for the entire amount of revenue from the sale of ICU shares, as is required by Ukrainian legislation," he told journalists on Friday after testifying before the NABU.

The anti-graft agency will soon decide whose jurisdiction Taruta's report titled "Gontareva. The Threat of Economic Security of Ukraine" falls within, he said. Witnesses whose names will not be disclosed in keeping with the witness protection procedure will be questioned within the case.

The e-declaration of Gontareva's deputy, Kateryna Rozhkova, will also be probed, he added.

Taruta, who initiated a campaign for the resignation of the incumbent NBU Governor, is the author of the brochure titled "Gontareva. The Threat of Economic Security of Ukraine", which was presented in Washington, DC, the USA, in October. He is also among those who initiated a statement alleging crimes by the NBU's senior officials to the NABU. The statement was signed by 35 parliamentarians.
