MPs initiate depriving NABU’s first deputy head of Ukrainian citizenship - Sytnyk
Head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Artem Sytnyk believes that the preparation of the claim to the court on deprivation First Deputy Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Gizo Uglava of Ukrainian citizenship is pressure on him.
"Apparently, it is exclusively for the purpose to put pressure on him ... The issue of deprivation Uglava of Ukrainian citizenship appeared after the arrest of the top management of PJSC Odesa Portside Plant and Naftogaz, after Onyshchenko [Oleksandr Onyschenko, MP from People's Will group] taking advantage of his immunity, left the country, whereas a lot of his associates are being in custody now. Such cases gave start to others ... and we are working in such circumstances," Sytnyk said in an interview with "World", published on the NABU website on Thursday.
NABU head said that "an attempt to deprive my deputy of citizenship, who oversees the detectives’ work, it seems to me, is the highest score of his activities on this position."
However, he expressed the belief that common sense will prevail in desire to deprive Uglava of citizenship, "a man who has done a lot for Ukraine."
"I did not appoint the first deputy to the post until he became a citizen of Ukraine, and until I was convinced that he renounced the citizenship of Georgia, as we realized the importance of this issue. This question did not appear in two months after his appointment, it appeared after four months," Sytnyk told.
As reported, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine was preparing a lawsuit against Uglava to stripe him of Ukrainian citizenship.
The Citizenship Commission under the president recommended provide Uglava with Ukrainian citizenship, as a specialist who carried out real reforms of the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia in December, 2014. On April 27, 2015 Sytnyk appointed him as his first deputy.
Uglava, born in 1975, started his career in the prosecutor's office of Georgia in 1998. Since 2003, he occupied top posts, including Deputy Prosecutor General of Georgia (2009-2012).
