Economy ministry says several state-run enterprises neglect audits

Almost half of 45 largest state-run enterprises are neglecting the requirement to conduct an independent audit. Among them are Illichivsk Maritime Merchandise Port, Ukrposhta, Ukrspecexport, Ukrinterenergo and Zaporizhiaoblenergo, the Economic Development and Trade Ministry has reported.

The ministry said on Tuesday only 21 companies passed audit or are in the process of audit of their financial statements. Three more companies are holding tenders, while 21 state-owned enterprises violate the requirement to conduct the independent audit.

"They would not be able to avoid audit. Audit sabotage is tantamount to managerial inefficiency," First Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister Yulia Kovaliv said.

Among law breakers are also the Ukrainian Sea Port Authority, Sumykhimprom, Olympiysky National Sports Complex, Chornobyl NPP, Ukrkosmos, Pivdenne Design Bureau, Pivdenmash, Financing of Infrastructure Projects, Kharkiv State Aircraft Manufacturing Company, the 61 Communards Shipyard, Zorya-Mashproekt, Rehionalni Elektryzhni Merezhi, Coal Company Krasnolymanska and Vuhillia Ukrainy.

The ministry said a total of 142 largest state-run enterprises with assets of over UAH 250 million are to pass independent audit of their financial statements as part of the state ownership management reform.

The ministry added that as of 18:00 on May 31, 2016 financial audits started at United Mining-Chemical Company and State Mortgage Institution.
