Death toll of minibus hitting mine at Maryinka checkpoint rises to four

Another person, who was injured when a Volkswagen Transporter minibus hit a landmine near the Maryinka checkpoint in Donetsk region on Wednesday morning, has died in Kurakhivka town hospital.

"As of 1100, three people were killed during the explosion, another person – a resident of Makiyivka was injured. He was taken to Kurakhivka town hospital, but he also died from his injuries," the press service of the prosecutor's office of Donetsk region reported.

According to Chief of the National Police Department in Donetsk region Viacheslav Abroskin, the driver of the minibus, born 1971, who is a resident of Luhansk, was killed on the spot.

"[At the time of the incident] a number of people were waiting for transport on the road side. One of them, a man, was fatally wounded. He died at hospital. Also, a woman was heavy injured there. The accident happened on the territory outside of Ukraine's control," Abroskin wrote on his page in Facebook on Wednesday.

As reported at 0800 on Wednesday, a Volkswagen Transporter minibus hit a landmine 600-700 meters from the Maryinka checkpoint in Donetsk region. The minibus was coming from the 'gray zone' and was trying to overtake the row of cars. According to preliminary information, there were five people in the car. Two of them died on the spot and one was seriously injured and was taken to the medical institution at Kurakhivka, where this person died from the injuries.

Criminal investigation under part 2 of Article 115 of the Criinal Code of Ukraine (premeditated murder) was opened into the incident.
