Court extends custodial term of Russian officers Yerofeyev and Alexandrov for another two months

Holosiyivsky District Court of Kyiv has extended the custodial term of Russian security officers Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov by February 20, 2016.

As a correspondent of Interfax-Ukraine said, the respective prosecutor's petition has been granted at the court sitting on Wednesday.

Alexandrov and Yerofeyev were detained in the anti-terrorist operation zone in the town of Schastia, Luhansk region, on May 16, 2015. One was injured in the arm, the other in the leg.

Ukraine said they were Russian military servicemen. The Russian Defense Ministry said in response that both Alexandrov and Yerofeyev are Russian citizens but were not active members of the Russian Armed Forces at the time of the arrest.

The Kyiv court ordered that the Russian men be remanded in custody.

On May 19, Yerofeyev and Alexandrov were claimed suspected of committing crimes under Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for involving in the terrorist activities of so-called Luhansk People's Republic. Later on, Shevchenkivsky District Court of Kyiv chose the measure of restraint for them as keeping under guard.
