Poroshenko thanks Baltic States leaders for their continued support of Ukraine

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has thanked his counterparts from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania for their position on Russia's motives in fighting against ISIS (Daesh) in Syria.

"I am sincerely grateful to President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite, President of Estonia Toomas Ilves, and President of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis for their continued support and solidarity with Ukraine," Poroshenko said on Sunday.

He said that Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are well aware of the nature and purpose of Russian policy and therefore understand that the democratic world should be cautious about cooperating with Russia over Syria.

"Because the purpose of this policy is to divert international attention from the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine," Poroshenko said.

Last Friday, Grybauskaite, Ilves and Vejonis met in Palanga, Lithuania, where they exchanged their opinions on current issues affecting Europe, including the migration crisis, as well regional defense and security. They also discussed the recent terrorist attacks in Paris.

The presidents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia emphasized that, under the pretext of fighting Daesh, Russia will seek to escape from political isolation and shift the focus of the West from Ukraine, according to a statement posted on the official website of the Lithuanian president.

"Therefore, the international community must remain vigilant and not allow Ukraine to be forgotten," the statement reads.
