Yanukovych ordered adoption of 'dictatorship laws' – PGO

The instructions to adopt the so-called "dictatorship laws" on January 16, 2014 came directly from the then president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, head of the Special Investigations Unit of the Main Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) Serhiy Horbatiuk has said.

"According to the data of the investigation, we have clearly established that the initiative and direct instructions concerning the adoption of these laws came from the former president, who has been notified of this charge against him," Horbatiuk said at a press conference at the PGO on Wednesday.

The other suspects in the case are the then first deputy speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, former MP of the Communist Party of Ukraine Ihor Kaletnik, who chaired the parliamentary meeting on January 16, 2014, former head of the Party of Regions Oleksandr Yefremov, head of the counting commission, former member of the Party of Regions Volodymyr Oliynyk, secretary of the counting commission, former member of the Communist Party of Ukraine Serhiy Hordiyenko, and another eleven former MPs who were members of the counting commission were also notified of the charges, the Horbatiuk said.

Horbatiuk said that the indictments in criminal proceedings against Yefremov and Hordiyenko and former Party of Regions MP Oleksandr Stoyan had been sent to the court, and the case against former Party of Regions MP Mykhailo Chechetov was closed after his suicide.

"Other former MPs were put on the wanted list," the head of the special investigations unit said.
