Latvian president calls for keeping anti-Russian sanctions in place until Minsk agreements are fulfilled

Latvia thinks that anti-Russian sanctions should stay in place until the Minsk agreements are fully implemented, Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis has said.

He said after the negotiations with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Kyiv on Tuesday that he was hoping for the complete and unconditional fulfillment of the Minsk agreements, which was very important for everyone today. The economic sanctions against Russia should stay in place until the complete fulfillment of the provisions of the Minsk agreements, the president said.

Vejonis said he was speaking about the pullout of all foreign troops from the Ukrainian territory, as well as of all armaments and military hardware. It is impossible to review economic sanctions against Russia without the fulfillment of these keynote provisions of the Minsk agreements, he said.

A rescheduling of the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements is inadmissible, he added.
