President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel discussed bilateral relations between their countries during a meeting on Thursday.

Poroshenko thanked Bettel for Luxembourg's active support for the European integration of Ukraine and its clear pro-Ukrainian position in the protection of the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, for supporting Ukraine at the UN General Assembly session, and its vote for granting Ukraine the status of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, the Ukrainian president's press service reported.

In turn, Bettel thanked Poroshenko for the opportunity to visit Ukraine to discuss both bilateral relations and interaction in matters related to the European integration process of Ukraine.

Bettel reiterated Luxembourg's full support for the policy of a united position of the EU in support of Ukraine. He also noted the progress made in the peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas, which, in his words, is developing in the right way although it is still fragile and too early to speak of significant progress. He also praised the activities of the Normandy Four.

Bettel emphasized that the EU and his country firmly supports the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine and the necessity of strict compliance with international law and sanctions against those who violate it.
