Groysman invites Lagarde to visit Kyiv next spring to assess reforms

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Groysman and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde have met and discussed the ongoing reforms in Ukraine, as well as the work of the Ukrainian parliament.

"Continued cooperation with the IMF is crucial for the success of systemic reforms in Ukraine," Groysman said at a meeting with Lagarde in Kyiv.

He noted that on Tuesday, September 8, the mission headed by well-known European politician Pat Cox will arrive in Ukraine to assess the scope of the program of parliamentary support and enhancing its institutional capacity in pursuance of the memorandum of understanding between the Verkhovna Rada and the European Parliament.

Lagarde, in turn, highly praised Ukraine's progress in implementing reforms. She said the IMF will make a decision on the issue of the next tranche to Ukraine within the framework of the Extended Fund Facility program after taking into account the results of the IMF mission, which will arrive in Ukraine on September 22.

In addition, both officials welcomed the recent preliminary agreement between Ukraine and its international creditors on public debt restructuring.
