Verkhovna Rada agrees to dismiss Kostin as Prosecutor General
The Verkhovna Rada has given its consent to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to dismiss Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.
Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zhelezniak (Holos faction) said on the Telegram channel that 255 MPs voted in favor of relevant resolution No. 12153 at a plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday.
As reported, Kostin announced his resignation on October 22. According to the Prosecutor General, he considers it necessary to resign from the post in connection with numerous cases of abuse in the prosecutor's office agencies.
On the same day, the situation with medical and social expert commissions (MSEC) and abuses by government officials with obtaining disability status was considered at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council. The head of state declared "the political responsibility of the Prosecutor General for the situation in the prosecutor's office of Ukraine."
Earlier it became known that Head of Khmelnytsky regional MSEC Tetiana Krupa, suspected of illegal enrichment, issued group II disability certificate to 49 employees of the regional prosecutor's office, including Regional Prosecutor Oleksiy Oliynyk.
Kostin became Prosecutor General in July 2022. His powers were to end in 2028. In this position, Kostin replaced Iryna Venediktova, who also resigned early.
