Two instead of nine services to operate at checkpoints on Ukrainian state border – Yatseniuk

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk has said that just two services will operate at state border checkpoints in future to replace the current nine services – the State Border Guard Service, and the State Fiscal Service.

"We carried out an inventory of what is going on at the checkpoints in Ukraine, how many services control one citizen or vehicle when crossing state border. So in general there are nine various kinds of services doing the same kind of job at moment on the state border, which is unacceptable," Yatseniuk told journalists at Boryspil airport on Thursday.

According to him, the amendments will be made as part of the implementation of the visa liberalization action plan with the European Union.

"The State Border Guard Service completely changes the state border service operation system. Just the State Border Guard Service and the State Fiscal Service will remain working on the border," Yatseniuk said.

He said he hopes that this would simplify admission procedures at the state border and help combat corruption.
