Ukraine will increase military spending next year - Poroshenko
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that the country will increase military spending next year.
"Our striving for peace is not tantamount to pacifism, of course. We will increase military allocations next year. Already this week Verkhovna Rada increased the military budget by 5 billion more," he said in a video message to the nation posted on the presidential website.
Poroshenko said that the reinforcement of the army, its armament and supply with the latest types of weapons and military hardware will continue.
"Not only have we held out in this unequal struggle, we have grown stronger to a point when the excessively high price of a possible direct invasion has become apparent to the enemy. Therefore instead of attacking Ukraine from the front it is attempted to and dreamt of to undermine it from the inside, in the deep rear," the president said.
Therefore, he said, the main task today is not only to build unbreakable fortifications on the separation line but take every measure to prevent any internal instability that would make Ukraine "easy prey for the enemy".
