Right Sector supporters rally in Zaporizhia, demand Ukrainian interior minister's resignation

Activists from the Right Sector are rallying outside the walls of Zaporizhia Regional State Administration to demand a public inquiry into the Mukacheve events and a resignation of the Ukrainian interior minister, Arsen Avakov.

Several dozen people in camouflage, holding Right Sector and Ukrainian national flags, gathered outside the administration building on Sunday, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported. The assembled are referring to themselves as local members of the Right Sector, the Popular Movement of Ukraine and the Zaporizhia-based Self-Defense, expressing their support for the Right Sector members who, they claim, "were probably 'framed' in Mukacheve."

Activists put up a tent outside the regional administration building and announced their intention to protest indefinitely against "police and criminal arbitrariness," and demanded that the government in Kyiv launch a public inquiry into the events in Mukacheve and punish those responsible "regardless of their rank and office."

The picketers also demand a resignation of interior minister Avakov.

The protestors said that their picket is indefinite and they are set to stay outside the regional administration "until our demands have been met by the authorities."

It was reported Right Sector activists and supporters had begun indefinite protests in several Ukrainian cities such as Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk and Kyiv, over the shooting involving Right Sector members and the police in Mukacheve (Zakarpattia Region), which left three people dead and at least eleven injured.
