Specialists to draw up plan to restore ecological balance around BRSM-Nafta's oil depot near Kyiv
The governmental commission to liquidate the consequences of the fire at BRSM-Nafta's oil depot in the village of Kriachky, Vasylkiv district of Kyiv region, at an offsite meeting on Tuesday discussed the prospects of restoring the ecological balance in the territory surrounding the depot.
The press service of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine reported that further steps to liquidate the consequences of the fire at the depot were defined at the meeting.
"Large attention was paid to the issue of land reclamation: the process of artificial restoration of fertility of soil and plant cover after the manmade disaster. A plan to restore the ecological balance on the territory around the BRSM-Nafta's oil depot will be drawn up," the press service said.
First Deputy Head of the State Emergencies Service Oleh Melchutsky said that at present, there are no signs of fire around the depot. He said that all petrol and diesel fuel from the damaged reservoirs were pumped to the undamaged reservoirs.
The team tasked with liquidating the consequences of the emergency situation of the State Emergencies Service continues to work 24 hours a day. The rescuers collected fuel in the territory and water ponds near the oil depot.
The fire at the BRSM-Nafta oil depot in Kriachky started in the evening of June 8. Five people were killed and 15 were wounded in the fire. Oil reservoirs burned for almost three days. The fire resumed on June 13 after a reservoir had de-pressurized and fuel leaked.
