Six reservoirs burning down at oil depot near Kyiv, flames confined – Emergency Service chief
Six reservoirs are burning down at the BRSM-Nafta oil depot in the Vasylkivsky district of the Kyiv region, and the flames are confined, State Emergency Service of Ukraine head Mykola Chechotkin has reported.
"Six reservoirs are burning down at the oil base. Twelve reservoirs were burning last night, and only six were left in the morning. There is no threat of the fire spreading either towards the military unit's premises or the KLO oil depot or the military airfield. There are no reasons to panic about the alleged presence of toxic substances in the air either," he told reporters on Wednesday.
The rescuers will keep pouring foam over the burning reservoirs for reducing the intensity of flames and smoke. Three hundred firemen and 45 engines are working on the scene, Chechotkin said.
According to Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, the government commission has decided to use firefighting tanks to remove burned fire engines from the oil depot's territory.
Air pollution measurements are done three to four times a day, and the permissible pollution levels are not exceeded much, Kyiv Region state administration head Volodymyr Shandra has said.
He added that ground pollution measurements were being done as well.
