Kremlin calls Merkel's words on Crimea annexation bad judgment

The Kremlin has called the statement made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the annexation of Crimea by Russia bad judgment.

"Mrs. Merkel in her statement made one terminological mistake, she used the word 'annexation' instead of joining. We believe it's the wrong definition, we are talking about a reunion of Crimea and Russia, which was voluntary," Russian presidential press officer Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

He reiterated that the decision was made by a legislative body that was legitimate, including under the Ukrainian legislation at that moment. "For this reason, we believe that the term 'annexation' cannot be used here in any case, we believe that's wrong," he said.

Peskov also denied the statements by the German chancellor that the joining of Crimea to Russia posed a threat to the world order. "A threat to the world order and the order in Europe was not posed by Crimea, but more by the moment when the democratic and prospering Europe blessed a forcible change of power in one of the European states, namely in Ukraine. That became a pivotal moment for the European and world order," Peskov said.

At the same time, Peskov said a solution to the current difficult situation in the relations between Russia and Europe exists. "A solution always exists," he said.
