Radiation levels normal in Belarus as wildfire continues in Chornobyl exclusion zone

Radiation levels remain normal in Belarus on Thursday morning as a wildfire is still burning in the Chornobyl exclusion zone in the territory of Ukraine, the Belarusian Emergency Situations Ministry said in a report.

"Radiation levels were normal in the territory of Belarus as of 6:00 a.m. on April 30. Northwest winds are blowing," it said.

The latest radiation level updates are available on the website of the radiation and environmental monitoring service of the Belarusian Hydrometeorology Center, the ministry said.

For its part, Ukraine's State Emergency Situations Service has reported that firefighters continue to combat a blaze burning in the Chornobyl exclusion zone.

"The fire was no longer spreading any farther as of 6:30 a.m. on April 30. Efforts continue to extinguish minor fires burning on an area of approximately 70 hectares of the forest floor within the controlled perimeter," it said.
