Poroshenko amends regulations on Council of Crimean Tatar People Representatives, appoints Chubarov as head
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has amended the regulations on the Council of Representatives of the Crimean Tatar People and appointed head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars Refat Chubarov as the head of the council.
Poroshenko signed relevant decrees No. 194/2015 on the Council of Representatives of the Crimean Tatar People, and No. 195/2015 on the appointment of Chubarov as the chairman of the council on Friday, according to the president's official website.
According to the amendments, the Council head is appointed and dismissed by the president of Ukraine. The head of the Council is empowered to approve members of the Council and replace them, and also manages the activities of the Council. The head and other members of the Council will participate in its work on a voluntary basis.
The Council will be based in Kyiv. Technical and other forms of support for its activities will be provided by the State Affairs Department of Ukraine.
The regulations in their original wording were approved in 2000. The presidential decree annulled the amendments which were introduced to the regulations in 2010.
Also, Chubarov may soon become a member of Ukraine's parliament. At the parliamentary elections in 2014 he was 66th on the Petro Poroshenko Bloc (PPB) election list, but failed to get a seat in the Verkhovna Rada.
However, MP Stepan Barna, who was 65th on the PPB list, was appointed head of Ternopil Regional State Administration on April 2 and will now have to resign as an MP.
