Parliament decides not to impose new sanctions for violation of law on TV and radio broadcasting

The Ukrainian parliament has not supported amendments to some laws regarding the toughening of sanctions to license holders for violation of the laws on television and radio broadcasting.

A total of 189 lawmakers supported the bill, while at least 226 votes are required.

Head of the parliamentary committee for freedom of speech and information policy Viktoria Siumar presented the bill in the parliament. The bill proposed that the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting is permitted to urgently file a claim to court to temporarily terminate licenses of television and radio broadcasting organizations, providers or a program or temporarily ban retransmission of TV and radio programs if they violate Ukrainian law.

According to the document, it was planned to amend the law on television and radio broadcasting that it is banned from using television and radio broadcasting organizations for calls for seizing state power, changing of the borders of territories, aggressive war or a conflict, their propaganda and arousing national, race or religious hatred.
