Government to allocate UAH 150 mln for terminals for issue biometric passports, says premier

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday will decide on the allocation of UAH 150 million to buy terminals to issue biometric passports, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said.

"The government is making the decision to allocate UAH 150 million to buy over 600 terminals to issue biometric passports with the purpose of the effective implementation of the visa-free regime," he said.

The premier expressed dissatisfaction with the possibilities of issuing biometric passports by passport departments – only 35,000 a month.

Yatseniuk believes that the purchase of terminals will allow providing almost each district with a possibility of quickly issuing biometric passports. He said that by the end of 2015, the system is to start operating.
