Ukraine hopes that the OSCE mission will help ensure that the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics comply with the Minsk agreements, as well as make steps to hold local elections there on December 7, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.

"We also hope for the support of our OSCE partners in ensuring the compliance by the so-called LPR and DPR with all the agreements reached, as well as in making steps to prepare for and hold local elections in some districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions on December 7, as it was prescribed by the law a special government order in some districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions," Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.

He also said that the Ukrainian side believes that the holding of such elections would help bring the situation in these areas back to the legal field and contribute to maintaining a constructive dialogue between local communities.

On September 16, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a presidential law on the introduction of a special government order in some districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions for three years, as well as on the holding of early local elections in these regions on December 7 this year. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has not yet signed the law.
