President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy has called Petro Poroshenko on Monday to congratulate him on his success in the presidential election.

"I called Poroshenko after the successful presidential election in Ukraine yesterday and reiterated EU support for the country," Rompuy wrote in Twitter on Monday.
