Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday will take part in a working luncheon with EU foreign ministers in the framework of a session of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

Earlier the Russian Foreign Ministry information and press department reported that the prospects of bilateral relations in the framework of the Russia-EU roadmap and also the situation in Ukraine are expected to be discussed in the context of preparations for the upcoming Russia-EU summit.

"The EU is trying to impose its own approach on Eastern Partnership countries when they are not competitive with the overwhelming majority of European commodities. But they are being lured to a free trade zone which means that their markets will immediately be filled with more competitive products from Europe killing similar industries in the countries that will sign association agreements, creating problems for Russia because we also don't have customs borders with these countries," Lavrov said on Russia 24 channel ahead of the upcoming discussions in Brussels.

Linas Linkevicius, foreign minister of Lithuania, the country that currently holds the rotating presidency in the EU, announced in Brussels on December 12 that at the meeting with Lavrov his European colleagues intended to tell him about the impermissibility of Russia's pressure on Ukraine.
