Failure to sign agreement with EU pushes Ukraine under Russia's, Customs Union's influence – Yatseniuk
The leader of the Batkivschyna parliamentary faction, Arseniy Yatseniuk, has said that the failure to sign the Association Agreement with the EU will push Ukraine under influence of Russia and the Customs Union.
"If Ukraine joins the Customs Union, or if it rejects association with the EU, Ukraine will come under the influence of Russia and the Customs Union," he said at the Second Kyiv Youth Security Forum entitled "Good Governance: the only way to EU?" organized by the Open Ukraine Foundation.
"The next possible step is real loss of not just the legal, but the actual independence of Ukraine."
Yatseniuk said that Ukraine's primary foreign policy vector should not have to be a choice between western and eastern directions.
"This is a choice between the past and the future, and our future is the EU," he said.
