Some 300 activists of the Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Union and supporters of Ukraine's former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko have gathered in Kyiv for a rally in her support.

The people have gathered on Khreschatyk near the entrance to Kyiv Pechersky Court, where one of the trials of the Tymoshenko case was held, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported. Some protesters were wearing white T-shirts bearing Batkivschyna symbols and the words "Free Yulia!" Some people were holding her portraits. Protesters are also holding Batkivschyna flags and state flags of Ukraine.

A photo exhibition entitled "731 Days of Imprisonment of Democracy " is now being held on Khreschatyk. The exhibition displays photos of Yulia Tymoshenko taken in the period of her active political activities, at public events in which she took part, and photos taken at her trial.

Among the protesters are Oleksandr Turchynov, chairman of the central headquarters of Batkivschyna and a member of the Batkivschyna parliamentary faction, and MP Oleksandr Bryhinets and MP Mykola Tomenko of the Batkivschyna faction.

Representatives of Batkivschyna's youth organization were holding posters reading "Free Yulia!" They lined up along one of the eight traffic lanes of Khreschatyk Street. At the end of the action, they released red heart-shaped balloons into the air and left the traffic lane.

After that, the protesters began collecting signatures for a petition to the European Court of Human Rights, which urges the court to speed up the consideration of Tymoshenko's complaint.

Monday, August 5, marks two year's since Yulia Tymoshenko's imprisonment.
