No threat to Ukrainian tourists in Turkish cities where protesters clash with police, consul general says

Ukraine's Consul General in Istanbul Bohdan Yaremenko has said that there is no threat to Ukrainian tourists in the Turkish cities where protesters have clashed with the police.

"Perhaps what we're currently seeing in Turkey is a breakthrough in public opinion regarding certain problems that have accumulated over recent years. Perhaps it was hard to notice them before, as the country has developed very quickly over the last decade - both economically, democratically and socially," he said on ICTV Channel on Sunday.

He said that it is a clear and groundless exaggeration to say Turkey is now "in the flames of protest or revolution."

"If Ukrainians come to Turkey to holiday at sea as tourists, to Istanbul or to other historic cities, or for business affairs, we cannot say they face anything more than under usual circumstances. There is no reason for that. There is no threat to such visitors to Turkey," Yaremenko said.
