UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko has said that his party will challenge the results of the mayoral election in Vasylkiv, Kyiv region, in the courts.

"We will challenge the results of the so-called elections in the courts," he said at a meeting of the conciliatory council of the heads of parliamentary factions and committees in Kyiv on Monday.

He said that the mayoral election in Vasylkiv was accompanied by "numerous violations and unprecedented machinations" that were detected by UDAR members. Klitschko also said that "the people who were involved in this" should be called to answer to justice for electoral irregularities.

As reported, the head of the Vasylkiv town branch of the Party of Regions, Volodymyr Sabadash, won the early mayoral election on June 2, 2013. UDAR Party candidate Serhiy Sabov took second place, and former Vasylkiv Mayor Valeriy Popovych, who was nominated by the Yednist (Unity) Party, was third.

The Committee of Voters of Ukraine did not record fraud in the vote count fraud in the mayoral election, but said it believes that procedural violations during the voting and vote count could have influenced the election's result.
