MPs Kanivets, Skosar say they quit Batkivschyna due to reluctance to participate in Yatseniuk's 'show'

Ukrainian MPs Oleh Kanivets and Ihor Skosar, who quit the Batkivschyna faction in parliament on Thursday, have said that they do not want to participate in a political "one-man show" of faction leader Arseniy Yatseniuk.

"We have become hostages to the manical desire of the Batkivschyna faction leader to become the single opposition candidate in the presidential election in 2015. Yatseniuk is currently trying to lead the party, disregarding the opinion of associates and realizing only his own ambitions," reads a manifesto statement signed by Kanivets and Skosar, which was made available to Interfax-Ukraine.

According to them, given the imminence of their involvement in "political corruption schemes of Arseniy Yatseniuk," they made "the only possible decision – to leave the ranks of the faction."

"The complete usurpation of power by Arseniy Petrovych [Yatseniuk] is leading to an intraparty split. In fact, Yatseniuk is a politically corrupt man, who dreams of becoming a national leader," the deputies said.

"Participation in the opposition's stage show is not for us. We do not want to lose our political orientation, by continuing to participate in the political theater of the absurd, into which the Batkivschyna faction has turned. We promised to our voters to defend their interests in parliament, and this will be a priority in our work in parliament," Kanivets and Skosar said.
