Yanukovych promises to resolve land squatting issue in Crimea

The issue of land seizures in Crimea will be settled in a civilized way, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

In an interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda v Ukraine newspaper published on Friday, Yanukovych said that the conflicts associated with the Crimean Tatars are more of a problem of resettlement and rehabilitation.

"The Ukrainian authorities are doing much to address these issues. Not everything is working, often due to objective reasons, lack of resources," the president said.

He recalled that the government was helping solve the urgent problems of repatriates.

According to Yanukovych, they have settled the issue of the allocation of land for the construction of a mosque in Simferopol, a working group is currently selecting and providing alternative land plots for the returnees, who took part in protests.

"So the issue of land squatting in Crimea will be settled gradually and in a civilized way. I am sure that eventually social, cultural and everyday needs of returnees will be met too," the president said.
