Rivne Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) shut down its first reactor at 0219 Kyiv time on January 1, 2013 due to the reduction in power consumption of the integrated energy system of Ukraine under a submitted application, National Joint Stock Company Energoatom's press service reported on Wednesday.

The reactor is currently in a hot shutdown mode, the press service said.

Thus, as of Wednesday morning, 13 out of 15 reactors were in operation at Ukraine's four existing nuclear power plants.

The first reactor of Khmelnytsky NPP is undergoing scheduled maintenance.

Radiation levels and the fire and environmental situations at all Ukrainian NPPs are normal, the press service said.

Energoatom is the operator of all four operating nuclear power plants in Ukraine. It operates Zaporizhia, Yuzhnoukrainsk, Rivne and Khmelnytsky plants with 15 VVER reactors whose total installed electrical capacity is 13.835 GW.
