Kharkiv City Council asking Cabinet for funds to help people affected by blasts in residential buildings

Kharkiv City Council has addressed Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov with a request to provide funds to eliminate the consequences of the September explosion in an apartment building at 2-b Slynko Street n Kharkiv.

"To date, the funding for the immediate recovery operations to eliminate the aftermath of the emergency situation that occurred in a building at 2-b Slynko Street in Kharkiv, have not been transferred," reads a statement adopted on Wednesday.

Members of the council asked the premier to instruct the government to provide around UAH 6.17 million from the state budget's reserve fund to help restore the living conditions of the residents of the building at 2-b Slynko Street in Kharkiv.

They also asked to consider providing money from the budget's reserve fund to help the residents of the apartment building at 248-h Moskovsky Avenue in Kharkiv.

As reported, in the morning on September 4 an explosion occurred in a flat on the third floor of a nine-storey building at 2B Slynko Street in Kharkiv. Five people were hurt in the explosion. A total of 118 residents were evacuated and accommodated in hotels and in the official premises of Kharkivmisklift municipal enterprise.

On December 16, an explosion and fire occurred at a 16-storey residential building in Kharkiv, which killed four people (including an 11-month-old child), eight were hospitalized.

The blast destroyed separating walls, damaged ceilings and floors between the ninth, tenth and eleventh floors, and the facade of the building was also damaged. Fire destroyed four walls.
