EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Catherine Ashton, in a conversation with acting Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, spoke about two different events - the Ukraine-EU summit at the beginning of next year and a meeting of the EU-Ukraine Cooperation Council in the summer of 2013, the vice president's press service has specified.

Ashton's spokeswoman, Maja Kocijancic, said this in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine in Brussels on Tuesday.

"They discussed the upcoming EU-Ukraine summit, which, as we said, will take place at the beginning of next year. The date is currently being agreed on. But they also talked about the holding of a meeting of the Cooperation Council in the summer [of 2013] in Luxembourg," she said.

Kocijancic said the purpose of the phone conversation was Ashton's intention "to pass on messages that were included in the EU Council's conclusions on Ukraine."

Earlier, the press service of the Ukrainian government said that Ashton, in a phone conversation with Azarov, had declared Brussels' readiness to hold the EU-Ukraine summit in Luxembourg in the summer of 2013.
