Infrastructure ministry wants to introduce contactless railway tickets

The Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine plans to introduce contactless railway tickets, Vice Premier and Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov told reporters on Wednesday.

He said that the necessity to sell contactless railway tickets is linked to the development of new technologies and the fight against ticket fraud.

He also said that as a part of fight against ticket touts, it is planned to introduce new requirements for returning unused tickets with the start of the new spring schedule.

When the ticket is returned less than three hours before the trains departs, it is planned to return 50% of its value, and when the train leaves – only 10%.

Kolesnikov said that Ukrainian should get accustomed to planning their trips in advance.

He said that "of course, everything could happen, but if you plan the trip in advance, you can see now that there are tickets in ticket offices 45 days before the departure.

As reported, the State Railway Administration of Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsia) plans in October 2012 to finish work on the switch to the sale of electronic tickets. It is planned that a ticket bought online should not be printed in the ticket office and it can be used for the boarding the train.
