Spokesperson: EU put forward no new conditions for Ukraine to hold summit

Brussels has rejected reports of any new conditions put forward to Kyiv to hold the EU-Ukraine summit.

"Regardless of the assumptions made, there are no new conditions for the EU-Ukraine summit," Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson for EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Catherine Ashton, told Interfax-Ukraine.

She noted that EU-Ukraine summits are held on a regular basis.

"We're waiting for the holding of the elections in order to begin preparations for the next summit. The summit will most likely be held in early 2013," she said.

Kommersant-Ukraine earlier reported that EU leadership was allegedly ready to meet with President Viktor Yanukovych in early 2013, after the elections and a re-formatting of the government, and that the EU-Ukraine summit could be held in late January or early February 2013, after the resignation of the Ukrainian government.
