Ukrainians have long believed that on Christmas night the heavens open, and today we ask for peace for Ukraine, fight and pray for it, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"For a long time, Ukrainians have believed that the heavens open on Christmas night. If you tell them your dream, it will definitely come true. Today, we all have one dream. We all make one wish for everyone. ‘May he die,’ we say to ourselves, but when we turn to God, of course, our prayers are broader," Zelenskyy said in his Christmas greeting.

"We ask for peace for Ukraine. We are fighting for it. We pray for it, too. We deserve this. So that every Ukrainian family can live in harmony. So that every Ukrainian child can rejoice, smile, and maintain their childlike faith in goodness and miracles," he added.

The president added that we also deserve for the eyes of our children, parents, loved ones, and relatives to finally stop crying; for good and truth to prevail; and for peace to prevail.

"There were us. There was Ukraine. And certainly, there will be a day when everyone will gather at home during the first peaceful Christmas and say to each other: ‘Christ is born! Let us glorify Him!" the head of state emphasized.

He congratulated Ukrainians on the holiday and wished everyone a Merry Christmas, delicious kutia, and "of course, peace for all of us."
