Ukraine's MFA about Russia's ultimatum to NATO: Utter bullshit

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Heorhiy Tykhy has retorted sharply to Russia's ultimatum that one of the key elements for ending the war was to cancel NATO's promise of Ukraine's future membership, made at the 2008 Bucharest summit.

"Aw shucks, North Korea's ally issuing ultimatums to NATO. Utter bullshit. Moscow has no say here. Russia is waging an aggressive war in Europe. Its occupation forces are in Ukraine and other European countries," he said on the X social network on Friday.

The diplomat stressed that European security architecture is built on protection from Russia.

As reported, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Grushko said he demanded that a key condition for ending the war should be the withdrawal of commitments regarding Ukraine's future membership at the 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest.

He also said that Ukraine's potential NATO membership "rules out the achievement of peace in Ukraine and, in a broader sense, the creation of at least some kind of security architecture."
