General Staff confirms defense forces' attack on Russia's Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery

The forces and means of the Ukrainian Navy and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), in cooperation with other components of the defense forces, struck the infrastructure and production capacities of JSC Novoshakhtinsk Oil Products Plant in Russia's Rostov region, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has said Monday.
"A fire in the area of the facility, has been confirmed, namely at the catalytic cracking unit ELOU-AVT-2.5. Details on the damage caused by the strike are yet to be updated," it said on the Telegram channel.
An informed source in the SBU said that during the attack Ukrainian drones overloaded Russia's air defense system, which was protecting the plant, creating a window of opportunities for Ukrainian missiles launched jointly by the SBU and the Ukrainian Navy at the next stage.
According to preliminary data, the joint operation caused serious damage to the production capacities of the enterprise.
"Today's special operation was conducted with the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and Ukrainian-made missiles. This proves once again the effectiveness and might of Ukrainian weapons. And in particular, its capability to destroy enemy logistics serving for the war in Ukraine," the SBU source said.
