The leader of the European Solidarity political party, Petro Poroshenko, met with the Canada-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group in Ottawa. The politician said he had a substantial and open conversation on the entire spectrum of security issues on the agenda, the according to the website of the party.

"There is an understanding that today the security of the entire Euro-Atlantic area depends on the victory over the Russian aggressor exactly in Ukraine," Poroshenko said on his Facebook page.

During the meeting, he noted that comprehensive military, political and economic assistance to Ukraine should remain among the top priorities of Canadian foreign policy.

"Such support is of particular importance on the eve of Canada's chairmanship of the Group of Seven in 2025 and the parliamentary elections in Canada next year. I briefed Canadian parliamentarians in detail on the situation at the front and the priority needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. At this stage, long-range missiles, electronic warfare systems, drones and modern training of Ukrainian military units are a priority. I called on Canadian MPs to further strengthen the sanctions regime against Russia and its allies in order to deprive the aggressor of the resources to continue the war," Poroshenko said.

He noted Canada's special attention to supporting Ukraine's membership in NATO as the only effective guarantee of Ukraine's security.

Earlier, Poroshenko also met with MPs and shadow ministers from the opposition Conservative Party of Canada and secured the support of its key representatives.

"Today, this opposition force enjoys the highest level of public support. This is important in the context of the upcoming parliamentary elections next fall," he said.

As reported, in his speech at a session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Canada, Poroshenko called on the Alliance members to extend a membership invitation to Ukraine and stressed that this would be the right response to Putin's escalation.
