Poroshenko criticizes draft 2025 state budget
Petro Poroshenko, leader of the European Solidarity Party and member of Ukraine's parliament, sharply criticized the draft 2025 state budget, which the Ukrainian government presented to parliament on Friday.
"Find the courage to return this shameful document to the government. The government gets an F for the economy, an F for politics, and an F for defense. This budget, in its current form, should not be approved," Poroshenko stated from the Verkhovna Rada's rostrum.
He directed his remarks at the finance minister, accusing the government of once again misallocating the military personal income tax to areas "where funds are stolen." He urged that this tax revenue be directly transferred to military brigades, arguing, "They will spend the money more quickly, effectively, and without corruption."
Poroshenko also expressed outrage over the allocation of UAH 43.2 billion from the 2025 budget to the road fund.
Furthermore, he noted that the presentation of the key financial document of a country at war took place in an almost empty parliamentary session hall, implying that "the decisions were made outside the walls of the Verkhovna Rada."
