Ukraine again calls on NATO to shoot down Russian drones, missiles after incidents in Romania, Latvia
The violation of the airspace of Romania and Latvia by Russian drones on Monday is a reminder that Russia's aggressive actions go beyond Ukraine, and the collective response of the allies should be maximum support for Ukraine now in order to put an end to Russia's aggression, protect lives and maintain peace in Europe, said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha.
"Ukraine needs concrete action from allies to this end. A brave collective decision to use partner air defense to intercept Russian missiles and drones over Ukraine. Stronger and faster military aid for Ukrainian warriors. Lifting restrictions on Ukraine’s use of weapons. Act now," he wrote on his page in the social network X.
Head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak also believes that NATO should react to the fact that "Russian Shaheds feel free in the airspace of European countries."
"They need to be shot down. Russia always does this - they are trying to probe weak spots. The reaction must be strong," he wrote on Telegram.
Polish President Andrzej Duda, during a visit to Kyiv on August 24, said that NATO countries are continuing the discussion on the joint defense of Ukrainian skies from Russian missiles and drones, which began at the beginning of this year. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Poland, whose territory has also been hit by Russian drones, is not ready to make an independent decision on this issue and is waiting for a common NATO position.
